Earlier this week Sydney turned one month old. We can’t belive 4 weeks have gone by already but I guess a lot has happen in that time. Also, Sydney gratuated from newborn size diapers this week to size “1″ which is a major accomplisment and we’re sure you’ll agree. Later on this evening, the three of us will be going out to dinner with some friends so we’ll catch ya later.
Here are a few new pictures (click on the images to see them all (there are only 7 this time)).
Today was Sydney’s first Easter church service and at the same time her first concert. Grandma & Grandpa Housley, Andrea, Sydney and I went to a big Easter service held by the local “big” church here in Murfreesboro (click here for info) and as a part of the service the country band Diamond Rio performed a few songs. After church, Bob, Becky and the girls came over and we had a wonderful home cooked meal. It was then time for pictures and those are shared below.

Yesterday Andrea’s parents, sister, brother-in-law and her three nieces arrived for a long weekend to meet Sydney. This is the first time Sydney has met anyone from Andrea’s side of the family and we’re happy to have them here! Tomorrow we’re all going to take a field trip to Opryland mall. Anyway here are some pictures, as usual, click on any of these pictures to view the entire gallery.
I know it’s a day late but Sydney wasn’t in the mood for pictures yesterday so we dressed her up today instead. Sydney is going through her third week growth spurt so she’s feeding a lot and keeping mom up all night long. The “books” say growth spurts like this occur at 3 and 6 weeks where babies feed every hour and seem like they are hungry all the time. Hopefully it only lasts a couple days so Andrea can keep her sanity! Anyway, as some of you may know, I recently got a promotion at work and am currently doing two jobs so I’m exhausted too but that’s due to stress and having to get up at 5am so I can miss traffic on my drive to downtown Nashville. Anyway, Andrea’s family is coming into town this weekend and we’re looking forward to the visit!
Check out the pictures and we’ll catch up with y’all later!
One of Andrea’s friends sent her this link. It’s really funny but some of you age challenged folks out there might not “get” some of these songs and the humor might be lost on you. For the rest of you, enjoy!
This was a big weekend for Sydney with a lot of new experiences. On Friday Andrea took Sydney to the grocery store for the first time, she was so excited she insisted on getting fed the “natural” way before checkout. Then Friday evening we took her to her first restaurant (which she slept 100% through) and in honor of her name we decided we’d go to Outback Steakhouse. Then on Saturday Sydney, Andrea and I were invited to a birthday party for Ethan who turned 1. Ethan is the son of one of Andrea’s friends from her Bible study. We had a great time and found out pretty much the entire family is from Michigan and I was born at the same hospital as most of them. It’s a small world. After we left the party we took Sydney on her first trip to the mall (and again, she slept through most of it).
All in all it was a great weekend, except for today. I had to do yardwork for the first time in 2008. The grass was very long and we’ve got a lot of weeds to pull. The good thing was that at least I could do my outdoor chores while wearing shorts! Take that you Michigan snow birds!
Anyway, checkout the pictures from the birthday party. Only a few of Sydney, Andrea and I but there are some good shots none-the-less. Enjoy!

Yesterday Sydney had her two week checkup with her pediatrician. Everything went great, she’s gained half of a pound on her birth weight and weighed in at 7 lbs. 8 oz. This puts her in the 50th percentile (which is perfectly normal, it means 50% of all babies weigh more than her at 2 weeks and 50% weigh less). She also grew .5 inches up to 20.5″ which is in the 75th percentile and finally her head circumference growth also puts her in the 75th percentile. Again, 75th percentile is perfectly normal. The doctor was very pleased with her progress and eased our concern over letting her sleep 5-6 hours at night (which is does some nights). She’s a perfect gift from God and we just can’t stop kissing and hugging her!
Also, as some of you might know, I got a promotion at work and started my new job this week (at the same time I’m still doing my old job until they find a replacement) so I haven’t had much time to take, edit and post new pictures this week. I’ll try to get more of those done this weekend.
Well yesterday evening marked Sydney’s second week of life and she’s doing wonderful! On Sunday her umbilical cord stump fell off by itself just before we took her on her first outing! We all went over to Jim and Judi’s house for dinner and to celebrate a couple birthdays in the Schoen family. We all had a great time and Sydney enjoyed her trip. Tomorrow Sydney gets her two week checkup at the pediatrician’s office and we’ll post her weight so y’all can see how she’s doing. My mom went home on Monday evening and I’m back at work so today was Andrea’s first day home alone with the baby and she did great.
Without further adieu, here are some new pictures (as usual, click on these to see them all):
My name is Nathan and I’m a photoholic. I’ve been sober for 15 minutes. Seriously, I need to stop taking so many pictures! I just can’t resist. Anyway, I’ve added a bunch of pictures to the gallery in an album I’m calling “Week 2.” I’m sure these are starting to get redundant so after this week is over I’ll start cutting back to the best 5 or so shots just to keep this sane. Anyway, here are a few of my favorites from this week, go ahead and click on any of them to see the whole album.
We did take a few other really good pictures this week, but you won’t be seeing those… on the website…
Time flies (except between the hours of 12am - 4am when Sydney forgets how to sleep). I was going to post this message on Monday but that came and went and so did Tuesday. Anyway back to what I wanted to talk about - typically babies lose between 5 and 10% of their birth weight in the first few days due to fluid loss (hey, they were swimming for the past 9 months) and they usually gain that back within the first 10 to 14 days. Anyway, on Monday Sydney turned 1 week old and had a follow up appointment at the hospital so they could check her weight. She weighed 6 lbs 14 oz at birth (on Monday) and on Friday she weighed 6 lbs 9 oz which was right at 5% weight loss. Her checkup two days ago had her at 6 lbs 15 oz already! They were more than happy and told us not to change anything we were doing and that we didn’t need to come back again. Just the normal checkups with her pediatrician done at the doctors office.
Anyway, I hear her crying so I better go do my nightly duty and keep her occupied so Andrea can get some sleep. I’ll upload some new pictures tomorrow (or later today as the case may be).
